Let’s have a sustainable and toxic-free Christmas!

02 / 12 / 2021

The most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner – we love Christmas but even more we love sustainable choices for celebrating and creating a festive feeling. But have you ever wondered whether the decorations and gifts you buy could contain harmful chemicals?

This Christmas campaign wants to protect you from potentially harmful substances present in Christmas decorations, toys, kitchen equipment, or favourite electronic devices. And how about those artificial Christmas trees?

Through the Advent period leading up to Christmas we will be looking at the potentially harmful substances in these articles and what the best alternatives are.

A social media campaign will run until December 23 and throughout this period we will be explaining how you can have a more sustainable and less harmful Christmas. Follow the hashtag #ToxicFreeXmas on social media!

Weekly activities all over Europe will include the use of the Scan4chem app to raise awareness among producers and brands by asking them about substances of very high concern in plastic goods at concentrations above 0.1 % by weight. We encourage communication between consumers, retailers and producers. Every request counts – raising awareness on all sides and making our lives more sustainable.

The campaign has been created within the LIFE AskREACH project and will run in Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Sweden, Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal and other countries all over Europe.

Feel free to join in and be part of this campaign!
